I have a weird problem on my KLR. The dashboard turn indicator light works on Left-turn indicator but not on Right-turn indicator. The actual turn-indicator lights work properly for left and right. Its just the light on the dashboard that does not work when turning right.

I replaced the incandescent globe with an LED on the dashboard indicator. Then the problem started.

Any ideas?

I could open up again and put the original globe back in again to see if that works, but I think its more likely that I might have pulled a wire loose somewhere. I don’t know where to check though.

Ya unfortunately you cannot change that light with an LED as depending on whether you are turning left or right, current goes in opposite direction through the bulb and an LED is a Diode so only allows current to pass one way

You need 2 diodes to send the current one way only through the LED. There's lots of info regarding it on the various KLR forums

As Dieseldawie said. A LED is polarised. The current polarity changes from left to right. I made my own bulb using two Led's in parallel with opposite polarities soldered together. Add a 1k resistor in series, to limit current through the LED's. 5mm LED's usually has a current limit of 10 to 15 milli amperes.

Yesterday I popped in to Yebo Electronics and bought a R7.50 Diode Bridge Rectifier which I soldered in-line just before thebulb-holder.
Cheap, quick and a simple enough solution.
