So this isn't the first time that I have changed my brake pads. Previously ran EDC, but this time round I thought I would try SBS. Rear wheel went on easily. But front wheel is where the issue is. The pads went into the caliper easily. But it was nearly impossible to get them onto the caliper. Even though I have pushed the pads in so that the pistons are pushed as far back as they can go. Once on the front wheel is basically locked up...

What can cause this? Does anyone have a fix?

I have always used SBS and the front is always tough. I usually find that there is still a very slight amount that the piston can be pushed further and then the pads clear the disc, although it is close.

I have a fugly though. Maybe it is different on the new shapes.

I also use SBS and have not experienced any problems. Can the sliding pins move freely?

There is apparently a different part number with the same shape but thicker braking material. Do you not perhaps have the wrong set?

Did you clean the pistons before you pushed them in?
A layer of dirt will build up on the outside of the piston making the pushing back difficult to impossible.
This can also cause problems with the brakes being weak later or that the seals start
leaking.

it also helps if you loosen the reservoir cap at the top, thus allowing the compressed break fluid to flow upwards - just don't get air in the system and don't let any of that fluid drip on your plastics/paint

I bought the following.

Front 611HS (FA135)
Rear 638LS (FA165)

Thats what was recommended on the SBS website for a New Shape. It just seems like there is too much braking material on the pads. And the issue is not with the pad against the pistons. It is the other one.

Putting the old pads back obviously relieves the issue.
Pistons are clean and sliding pin movement is smooth.

I had a look on a worn out set, 611 is the correct part number for the front.

Hope you find the cause of your issue.

I am just letting it wear through a bit. It is getting getter. I have bled the system as well as clean the calipers again for good measure.
