Front brakes made some near end of life sounds a few days ago >
Trac Mac was so kind to remove front & inspect > recon it's got a few 100's of km's left then it toast. Bought SBS 611HSFR so long to fit later: R410 font set only.

Is this what these cost on avg? Then went to Midas to pickup Activo 1L (after having topped up bike oil with +-500ml Castrol GTX this morning; haventlooked @ oil window for a few weeks. :pinch:
Anyway, meet a GS1200 owner outside > says he payed R240 @ Craigs MC's :woohoo: & recon they're good. R400's OK if it's better & going to last @#$ long; otherwise is this worth it or R250/pair the same thing? Pse advise, i don't knowmuch about KLR brake pads, etc.
(and maybe how much conversion kit to braided hose should cost today? i notice rear brake fluid is dropping slowly form full level; very slow, but dropping.)

Go to Motorcycle World in Parow - 2nd floor - ask for Gus - tell him I sent you. Get your breakpads and other spares from him - for everything else - go to CapeKLR.

GS1200 pays R240... for the plastic bag the spares come in.
SBS is decent and last a good time...it will also allow you to write ! 's with your rear wheel.

I think i'll cal them 2 get price; I do find the front brake a bit pap.
Simulated 'emergency dead stop' the bike goes further i would like it to.
Doesn't brake anything close to the XJ i once owned; maybe exepecting too much from single brake rotor? or can original rubber hoses weaken braking?

You can improve the braking on the KLR: Swap out the rubber hoses for braided variants, I used HEL, swap out the pads for some SBS quality pads and finally flush all the old brake fluid.
It still won't stop on a dime, but it will sharpen it up a little. or at least it will dive a lot more when hitting full tilt on the brake.

@Pannas & @BR: Thanks Pannas; called Gus > R120 less 4 Feredo. I used to used lots of Ferodo & ATE on various cages.
SMS seems good for bikes > Scandinavian made & all, just don't know if it's worth the R120 more. Then again, when life & harm can be avoided potentially,
what is R120 over the lifetime of a brake pad? Dang@#$; braid kit will probably also set one back a bit more; just put in 6x HD cctv cams & some security beef ups; in the red as is, @E$R@#$, don't want to do braid now, but it sounds important & right & better. %^#$%$@#$%^ .

@Abre: Thanks, links have good info.
Just thinking, maybe if one want superbike braking, then getting a superbike is prob a good idea?
I can live with 'sponginess', long as it bites the disk. Maybe also also safer to ride calmer & slower so you're not in need of SB Brake capabilities?

Start with proper flushing of the fluid and cleaning of the pistons and sliding pins. The SBS pads are good quality, don't have experience with Ferodo on a bike. Towards the end of their lifespan the pads can possibly loose braking properties.

Check that the disc is still within specs. The discs on the new shapes can sometimes wear out quickly.

Have heard that hydrolic shops can make braided hoses much cheaper. They will need a sample and the banjos.

Good luck.

Hi, since my disc lasted only 50 000km, with synthered pads, I now only use ceramic pads. Stopping power is still very good; just a softer pad.
The disc from kawa agents is aparrently R 3500-4500 ....pretty steap

Thanks 4 info; i took the sintered back to TracMac, quickly refunded, then bought ceramic online for R120 less. Also SBS brand, which would be better 4 a bike than Ferrodo i think.
