Evening guys!

I'm having an issue with my 2008, and it's driving me insane.

The problem started approx a month ago. I went on a rather muddy ride with some of the other Cape Clanners, got home, and washed the bike (yeees, I know, it's a KLR, don't wash it) Anyway, after that it hasn't been the same again.

The bike starts easily, and idles smoothly (not 100% smooth, but smooth) When I accelerate, it pulls, but with a big lack of enthusiasm. The bike also sounds different from the muffler side. It reaches 160 ish, but takes a while to get there.

Then I drained the carb bowl, cleaned out the jets- and Voila! The bike was running great. The power was back, the sound was normal, happiness! 2 weeks later, problem is back. Repeated carb ritual, nothing.

To help with the diagnoses:

2008 with 53 000Kms
Air filter is clean and oiled.
Doo is done
Deep hole issue is fixed
Petcock diaphragm is replaced.
Spark plug is replaced.
Jorg checked the valve clearances about 4000 kms ago
Tried running with fuel cap open, made no difference.
I have an inline fuel filter fitted.
I ran a bottle of valve ease.
I also swore a lot and smoked four Camels consecutively.

Now I need advice.

Thank you for any input in advance.

Kind, but gatvol regards,

Jakes

Both the reserve setting and the ON setting does exactly the same, no difference.

I once got dirty fuel (water contaminated, I believe) and the symptoms were similar. try to empty the tank and refill with fresh fuel?

Ek sal bietjie kyk, thanks man. Die feit dat dit net na die was begin het, gee die water voorstel meriete. En die feit dat dit weggegaan het en terug gekom het se ook vir my dis iets simpel. Dankie vir die insette!

I will be happy if my bike can reach 160ish

A bad spark plug perhaps? Best to take it to Jorg for professional advice.

Well more like 155 on the speedometer? And as mentioned in original post, I have replaced the spark plug. I'm also unable to take the bike to a specialist due to financial limitations (I'm 23 and earn peanuts in a junior position- while truing to pay off my bike   ) I'm really hoping this is fuel related!
